THE SITUATION

Managing thousands of solar panels, inverters, and batteries across customer homes requires knowing what is happening across the fleet right now. The client’s platform processed data in batches. By the time an issue surfaced in a report, the window to act had closed. Customers were often ahead of the operations team in noticing problems.

The reliability issues ran deeper. Connections to the energy management vendor failed with no structured recovery. Customer-facing APIs broke under normal load. And because every component was tightly wired to every other, a change in one area reliably broke something elsewhere. The architecture had become too fragile to scale and too rigid to change.

THE SOLUTION

GrowthArc approached the engagement with one governing principle: decouple the layers so data flows continuously, systems fail independently, and any part of the platform can change without creating cascading risk. That meant treating the data pipeline, device telemetry store, vendor integration, and customer-facing API layer as connected problems, not separate workstreams.

The work eliminated the most consequential failure points first. Real-time ingestion replaced batch processing at the foundation. Vendor integration was rebuilt with dedicated, structured pipelines. Customer APIs were redeployed as independently scalable services behind a governed access layer. Every resource was provisioned as code from the start, making the environment repeatable, auditable, and easy to hand off.

WHAT WE BUILT

Real-time streaming pipelines now continuously ingest telemetry from every device in the fleet as events occur. A publish-subscribe architecture decouples the systems that produce data from those that consume it, so either side can be updated or scaled without disrupting the other. Dedicated sync pipelines replaced unreliable point-to-point vendor connections. Customer-facing services were rebuilt as independently deployable microservices behind a governed access layer, giving the business central control over API traffic.

Automated orchestration handles pipeline execution and downstream workflows. Agent-based workflows capable of triggering decisions and actions across the platform handle operational tasks that previously required manual intervention. All infrastructure is managed as code, meaning the entire environment is version-controlled, documented, and reproducible.

Before / After — GrowthArc
Before
After
Batch pipelines with processing delays; no real-time device visibility
+ Real-time streaming pipelines; telemetry available the moment it happens
Tightly coupled systems; changes in one broke the other
+ Event-driven architecture fully decoupling producers from consumers
Unreliable vendor integrations with no structured sync
+ Dedicated pipelines connecting the vendor directly into the client’s data layer
Customer APIs unreliable under load; no governed access layer
+ Independently deployable services behind a governed, secured access layer
Infrastructure provisioned manually; no audit trail
+ All infrastructure managed as code; repeatable and fully documented

THE OUTCOME

The platform now supports 250,000+ sites. Telemetry from every device streams continuously and reaches operations teams the moment it is generated. Vendor data flows in reliably. Commands reach devices in near real time, replacing the coordination bottleneck that previously slowed dispatch.

The more significant shift is operational. The client no longer waits for data to explain what went wrong. Teams see what is happening as it unfolds, which changes what is actually possible: spotting issues before customers notice them, responding to fleet events in the moment, and building on a foundation that holds under growth.

Supported Sites

New customers and device types onboard without rebuilding the underlying stack.

Real‑time

Fleet Telemetry

Device status streams continuously. Operations teams see what is happening across the fleet the moment it occurs.

Near real‑time

Command Dispatch

Decoupling producer and consumer layers eliminated the coordination bottleneck.

FUTURE OUTLOOK

The next phase extends the automated workflows already running on the platform, adding diagnostics, anomaly detection, and operational response so the fleet can handle routine issues without manual involvement.

Because the architecture was designed for growth, adding new device types or vendor integrations means extending what already exists, not rebuilding it. The client scales in proportion to business growth, not around technical constraints.
